An important reminder to not be complacent when visiting natural sites such as Remarkable Rocks
April 08, 2018
The 12-month Australian adventure of a young European got off to a very "rocky" start when they ignored the warning signs, and decided to scale one of the monoliths at Remarkable Rocks, in Flinders Chase National Park. Both arms of the traveller were injured in the fall, with one possibly sustaining a fracture, seriously curtailing any possibility of finding work in the near future.
It pays to consider the longer term implications of taking risks to get that great snap for Instagram. The physical pain endured can be bad enough, but there are potential financial implications, with medical expenses and possibly fines, along with loss of income, if travelling with a working visa.
It is also worth noting that, sadly, four people's lives have been lost at Remarkable Rocks. It is an absolutely magnificent place to visit, and is fittingly named, BUT, visitors must respect the site, and adhere to the warning signs. Young children need to be watched at all times.
